Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has asked asylum seekers at the Manus Detention Centre to move to the new site.

O’ Neill said the Detention Centre was established for the purpose of processing asylum claims which has been completed.

He said the Center will not be reopened and has been returned to its former function as a Defense Force facility.

Given the Supreme Court’s decision, the PNG Government has no choice but to intervene for the wellbeing of both the refugees and non-refugees.

From the 820 refugees in Manus currently in Manus, 610 have been processed as genuine refugees while the remaining 210 as non-refugees.

The Prime Minister is currently attending the APEC 2017 Summit in Vietnam.
