Former Mining Minister Byron Chan officially handed over the reins for the Mining Ministry to new Minister Johnson Tuke this week.
In welcoming Minister Tuke, Mr Chan reflected on the achievements during his tenure in office, whilst at the same time encouraging the new Mining Minister to continue the support towards developing the mining industry in a positive way.
Minister Tuke, committed to continuing reforms within the mining sector.
Among his priorities was legislative changes to the country’s Mining Act, which is aimed at improving the regulatory framework of the mining industry, in line with international best practices.
With the Mining sector being a significant contributor to Papua New Guinea’s revenue, and with several big projects under review, Minister Tuke is adamant the industry can work together to ensure maximum positive results for the country.
