There were 11 categories, 33 nominations during the 13th Yumi FM Musik Awards. The host of the evening was Radio Personality,Kasty.
In recognition of contributions to PNG music in 2016, the nominations were up for, an addition to the JK Hall of Fame, Group of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Duet, Rookie of the Year, South Pacific Artist of the Year, Studio label of the year, Listeners’ Choice artist of the year, Group of the Year, 2016 Listeners’ choice and Song of the Year-listeners’ choice.
The late PNG Musician, John Wong, was bestowed a spot in the hall of fame, most Papua New Guineans may remember his ever popular “Under the board Walk’ hit and many more.
Stagajah walked away with the three awards, the ‘Group of the Year’, ‘Studio label of the year’ and ‘Group of the Year- Listener’s’.
Tarvine Toune was equally awarded Artist of the Tear, Listeners’ Artist of the Year and Best Duet for his collaboration with Hotwills and Drex Blunt in popular song in 2016, Rowena.
While Jaro Local’s Meri Kalibobo song was awarded ‘The Song of the Year’.
He went on to bag the ‘South Pacific Artist of the Year’ and the ‘Rookie of the Year’.
And to top of the awards night, the Song of the Year- Listeners’ Choice went to Mal Maninga Kuri for the song, Anawake.
And present to entertain fans was Mereani Masani who made an appearance with the Dumen-Xtras, Sailas Kania with his hit, ‘Loneliness’, Wame Blood with their song, ‘Ples Pangia’ among others.
Now setting their sights on this year, more female vocalists are encouraged to make their mark as well.
