Gerehu General Hospital Inaugural Board Sworn In

Gerehu General Hospital has sworn in its inaugural board of management.

The Ministry of Health said this sets in motion plans for the hospital to break away from the National Capital District Management to being a State-Owned Institution, leaving POM Gen as the main referral hospital for NCD.

The nine newly elected board members were sworn in by law under the National Department of Health’s Legal team; each swearing by an oath and signing off under their official roles.

The appointment of the board comes over two years after the Gerehu Clinic was upgraded to a General Hospital.

The Health Minister underlined a need for a board to exist under the government’s administration, to ensure accountability and good governance for the hospital.

He also announced that while this now makes POM Gen the nation’s referral center, it will also be the teaching hospital to the Medical Faculty of PNG.

Amidst a growing demand for more hospitals in the nation, Malabag revealed that Jiwaka’s Kunjip Nazarene Hospital is next in line to be upgraded to a provincial health centre.

He will be visiting Jiwaka today to formalise the transition.
