Displaced Families of Lae’s 2015 Boundary Road Settlement Clash Still Awaiting Relocation to Former Homes

More than 400 men, women and children whose houses were destroyed during a clash at Lae’s Boundary road settlement in October 2015, are still waiting to return to their former homes.

The displaced families are still negotiating with authorities.

One of the women living in the temporary shelter told EMTV News they have been informed that they will be relocated before the election period.

At least 429 displaced settlers at Boundary road settlement were moved to the Morobe Governor’s official residence in September last year.

Their resettlement followed clashes that erupted in October 2015, resulting in the burning down of several houses, and leaving families homeless.

They have been advised by concerned authorities that they will be relocated before the national general elections. But, when, is still a question.

It’s been seven months since they moved here. Life for them is becoming tough and they have to fend for themselves.

They are engaging in informal businesses to sustain themselves.

These displaced families have been living at Boundary road settlement for over a decade, and their only wish is to return to their community before the year ends.
