Conflict of interest within Oceania Football Confederation

A conflict of interest is apparent within the Oceania Football Confederation.

According to former Papua New Guinea Football Association executive, Kisakiu Posman, the regional body has been placed in a situation that compromises their integrity.

Kisakiu Posman is no stranger to football administration in PNG. He was a one-time executive member of the PNGFA, he has now thrown his weight toward the Football Federation of PNG, the newly formed association headed by John Kappi Natto.

His comments regarding OFC’s compromise are due to the fact that PNGFA and the OFC have the same president, and amidst calls for an investigation into the election process that occurred last year, he had this to say.

Posman’s comments come in light of an OFC release on Monday, which in turn followed statements made by former PNGFA President, Madiu Andrew.

The OFC response was swift and direct, and led to further debate amongst followers of the code in PNG, however Posman belives, that due process has not been served correctly.

Football’s political arena has seen a handful of repercussions.

Various suspensions of members throughout PNG, club suspensions, sponsor withdrawals, breakaway bodies being formed in the provinces – with the worst possibly being the disruption of the National teams preparations in their World Cup qualification.

However calls have been made by numerous public figures over the months since last year’s general congress, saw David Chung retain his presidency, for a round-table discussion.

The most prominent being outspoken Minister for Sport, Justin Tkatchenko and Chief Secretary, Isaac Lupari, who at one stage was the Chairman of the Telikom National Soccer League, to date, none has been forthcoming.
