Madiu Andrew, the Interim Chairman of the National Premier league, the competition proposed by the Football Federation of Papua New Guinea, has come out hard against the Oceania Football Confederation.
In a release from the OFC, comments made by Andrew regarding their affiliation to FIFA had been labelled false.
In a media conference held today, the former President of PNGFA Madiu Andrew said, the issues at hand, had far reaching repercussions.
As the former president of the PNG Football Association from 1998 to 2005, Andrew’s calls for the OFC to investigate and consider intervention between the FFPNG and PNGFA carries weight.
Today’s media conference however, was in response to a previously made media statement that had been published stating that the newly formed FFPNG, had affiliation to FIFA – footballs world governing body, and the OFC, the regional head.
Andrew however, while not denying the media report, was non-apologetic, as he called on the OFC, to begin seriously looking at investigating PNGFA.
He says, the formation of FFPNG, while politically inspired, was more about the masses of football players around the country, being given the opportunity to play the sport.
As interim chairman of the National Premier League, Andrew has stated that, is was imperative, for good governance, to take precedence, in the running of the sport in the country. A sentiment also expressed by legal advisor, Kisakiu Posman. Posman, who was part of the PNGFA executive committee prior to the current Chung Administration, said the processes for creating an organisation such as FFPNG was in place, and would take time, with all legal bases covered, before full registration as an entity.
The fiasco surrounding FFPNG and the PNG Football Association stems from the December re-election of current PNGFA and OFC President, David Chung, who also maintains a seat on the FIFA Executive council.
The Football Federation of PNG maintains that their fight for transparency in the administration of football is the right one.
