The Japanese Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, Satoshi Nakajima says education is a priority area for Japanese aid. It comes when schools in Papua New Guinea need more infrastructure to cater for the influx of students adding schools across the country.
The Japanese Ambassador says infrastructure and human development are also priority areas. The PNG Governments bold move to give free education to every child in the country will bring an educated population in the future.
But, there are challenges now. Student numbers have increased, needing more classrooms, tables and chairs among other infrastructure.
Now is the time where Papua New Guinea will need its partners more than ever. The Embassy of Japan says they will give support.
“I saw that this country is so huge and the needs for education is also huge,
I would like to extend our continuous assistance,” says Ambassador, Nakajima.
Yesterday a testimony of that support, The Japanese official assistance development program funded three schools under its Grassroots Human Security Projects.
Hohola Demonstration Primary School in NCD, Akuna Primary School in Eastern Highlands, and Nunga Primary School in Western Highlands.
The Japanese Government is also funding a water project for the Kokopo- Vunamami water project. All together the aid presented yesterday was worth K742,000.
“Of course, some infrastructure, some roads is also important, because this country is so big and connectivity is important for local areas,
Human development is also quite important,” says the Ambassador.
The Japanese Ambassador, Satoshi Nakajima says infrastructure and human resources development will remain key priorities for the Japanese aid program.
