UPNG National Academic Staff Association announce Stop Work Protest for Lecturers and Staff

University of Papua New Guinea National Academic Staff Association today announced that on Monday, University Lecturers and Staff will stop work in protest of the 7.5% pay increments owed to them since 2015.

NASA President, Emmanuel Gorea, said that they have been negotiating back and forth with the University Management and the State since 2015, but their increments have not been paid.

University Lecturers and staff have been asking for their 7.5% pay increment.

Gorea says the response from university management and the state, was that there was no money.

He says NASA had considered three options in airing out there grievance. The first was to go to court, secondly was a full industrial strike, and thirdly, voluntary withdrawal of teaching and assessment component of work.

NASA will be taking option three, as they say it is student friendly.

Gorea believes the government has had enough time to settle their increments.

The 7.5 increments total up to K6 million.

The Voluntary stop work will last five days, and they state that if the government and university management does not respond, NASA will make their next move.
