Bulolo PMV Drivers Call for Continued Repair to Highway Roads

PMV operators working between Wau, Bulolo and Menyamya Districts want the government to upgrade, and maintain the highway before more serious  damage is done to the road.
Their concerns are in response to the recent Timini bridge that was washed away by heavy flooding on Sunday night.
The bridge links people from three districts of Morobe province, and its collapse has affected both the commuters, and businesses.

A PMV operator, says this bridge serves thousands of people including major businesses. Yet, little attention has been given to get the road fixed.

A frequent commuter, Shadom Gau, says road infrastructure is an important part of the development in this part of Morobe.

It is a daily struggle not only in Huon District, but in almost all of the other districts in the province.

Gau says, the collapse of the bridge has also highlighted the need for increased mobile network coverage in the districts.

Natural disasters happen unexpectedly, and thus it is important that there is network for people to call in order to get help.

Operators want the government to fix the economic highway so that businesses, and commuters can return to business.

Provincial Police Commander, Augustine Wampe, says the bridge was opened at midnight on Wednesday but it is only for light vehicles to use.

The works department is now working to fix the bridge so that heavy vehicles can also use the bridge.

Police patrolling at the area are there to provide security to commuters travelling to and from Lae.
