Bail Application Refused for Lorengau Enterprise Robbery Suspect

The National Court has refused a bail application of an accused suspect involved in the Lorengau Enterprise Robbery in March 2016.

Deputy Chief Justice, Gibbs Salika withdrew the application of one Kelly Kowo, who has been in custody, and is seeking bail on medical grounds.

Accused Kelly Kuwo from Lorengau in Manus Province, appeared in person before Deputy Chief Justice Gibbs Salika to receive the ruling at the Waigani National Court this morning.

It was alleged that in 2013, the accused and an accomplice held up employees of Lorengau Enterprise in Lorengau Town and stole K48,500 cash before walking away with store goods worth more than K700, 000.

They were apprehended by police, and charged for armed robbery under section 183 of the Criminal Code Act.

While in custody, the accused sought bail in a previous court for his children’s medical grounds, however his application was rejected by the court.

In this ruling, Deputy CJ Salika also rejected his application saying he can be treated in prison instead of using a medical condition to get out of bail.
