FIFA is hoping that the legacy of both good football administration and growth of the sport continues into the future after the world cup.
In a news conference held at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby yesterday, members of FIFA’s Women’s committees expressed delight at the hosting of the world cup. They also hoped that football would continue to improve in the country.
That legacy starts of course on a physical level. The development of infrastructure such as the brand new stadiums built for the tournament-Bava Park and the PNG Football Stadium. Underpinning these are also programs such as FIFA’s Live your Goals, as well as the Meri-futbol concept which will later be rolled out throughout the country. The latter program aims at encouraging young women to take up the sport.
With that also, are plans for various football acadamies across the nation.
Chairperson for the U-20 World Cup Organizing Committee, Sonia Bien Aime also presented FIFA’s view. FIFA’s Women’s competition manager, Rebecca Smith also hoping to have more women involvement, off the pitch.
The final of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be held on Saturday at 7:30pm. It will be telecasted live on EMTV.
