PNG Hospitals Supported through EMPNG-PNG Tribal Foundation Partnership

A very much needed donation has been made to two general hospitals in the country.

Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae, Morobe Province, and Port Moresby General Hospital in the nation’s capital, have received medical supplies from a strong partnership between ExxonMobil PNG Limited (EMPNG) and Papua New Guinea Tribal Foundation.

Two 40ft containers of medical supplies and equipment sourced and packaged by PNG Tribal Foundation’s US-based partner, Project C.U.R.E, were each donated to these two hospitals this year.

The delivery of these containers was supported by ExxonMobil in their efforts to aid communities have access to better health.

Andrew Barry, Managing Director of ExxonMobil PNG, said they are committed to help in addressing health challenges in the country by investing in sustainable health projects.

“It is partnerships like this with PNG Tribal Foundation, Project C.U.R.E and the hospitals that will drive positive development and we believe that this relationship will continue as we work together to bring about change and improved livelihoods to the people of PNG,” Barry said.

Having received the donations, CEOs of both hospitals expressed much gratitude and acknowledged the work of those involved in the supply and delivery of the containers.

“This assistance from ExxonMobil and PNG Tribal Foundation have been very helpful to our efforts at Port Moresby General Hospital where the supplies have already been put to good use,” said Grant Muddle, Port Moresby General Hospital CEO.

“The support given to Angau Hospital by ExxonMobil PNG and the PNG Tribal Foundation is incredibly appreciated as we strive to serve the people of Lae and those who come to our hospital from around PNG,” Chris Kenyhercz, CEO of Angau Memorial Hospital, said.

Medical supplies to Angau hospital were primarily for the Children’s Ward and included much needed consumables as well as other equipment like incubators for premature babies.

Funds for the containers came from the First Ladies Luncheon, a fundraising event held in Colorado, USA, with an attendance of around 1,200 business and community leaders. Mrs Lynda Babao-O’Neill was a keynote speaker at the event and enough funds were raised for four medical containers.

Tari Hospital in Hela Province was the first to receive a medical container in 2015, and another is scheduled to be delivered to Daru Hospital, Western Province this month.

President of PNG Tribal Foundation, GT Bustin, said the fundraising event provided an opportunity to feature Papua New Guinean women, and inspire girls in the country.

“EMPNG’s support not only enabled us to provide a significant amount of medical supplies around the country at an important time, but it had also created a high profile opportunity where a woman from PNG was featured. Mrs. O’Neill delivered a powerful speech about the beauty and challenges in PNG and people in Colorado were delighted,” Bustin said.

The PNG Tribal Foundation thanked EMPNG for their support in making the First Ladies Luncheon a reality and also thanked logistic partners Boroko Rotary, Consort Shipping, and Riback Stevedores for their assistance with the delivery of the containers.
