Second Volcano Erupts in East Sepik Province

The focus of the East Sepik Provincial Government is now on islanders at Biem Island.

Confirmed reports revealed that the volcano on Biem exploded on a relatively small scale at 3am this morning.

Over 2,000 people are believed to be on the island.

Meanwhile, East Sepik Governor, Allan Bird, has confirmed that first group of about 300 people will be evacuated this afternoon out of Ruprup Island.

Governor Bird said plans to evacuate people on Biem Island is the next big concern.

Governor Bird Will be talking to Prime minister Peter O’Neill to increase resources to evacuate the three island communities to the mainland.

Preparations are underway at Dandan for the resettlement of the affected islanders.
