11 Teams at Netball Masters

by Lorraine Genia – EM TV, Port Moresby

The annual Pan Pacific Masters games commenced at the weekend, with a big and impressive turn out.

This year alone, more than 1,000 individuals are registered to take part in the week-long tournament and for the first time in five years, President of the Public Servants Netball Association, Davera Dotty Guru was impressed with the 11 teams from Papua New Guinea.

The game commenced on Saturday, with the opening ceremony held on Friday, and was a mere success for the majority of teams from PNG.

Six teams were from the public sector, four teams were sponsored by individual corporate bodies and one was from the village of Maopa, Central Province.

The PNG netball community, who travelled there, were pleased with the influx of Papua New Guinean teams in this year’s tournament, as it promotes the message of unity with those living in PNG and Australia.

The games will continue throughout the week, with the finals and closing ceremony on Friday.
