WHP SDA Mission Hosts Health Expo

The Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands has staged a health expo in the province, in partnership with the Provincial and National Government to promote health education to the general public.

This comes after the church received reports of more deaths from lifestyle diseases.
Starting on Sunday with a clean-a-thon of Mt Hagen City to make awareness for City residents to live cleanly.

Pastor Malachi Yani explains, that health being the right arm of the Church’s gospel, and education being the left arm, makes the Church feel they have a duty to educate Papua New Guineans about healthy eating, healthy living, and healthy lifestyles.

’’We have been emphasizing about health in the church for too long and the general public also needs to know about the same message, ’’.

The church is hosting this expo to do medical check-ups and referrals, as well as educating people to have enough rest, exercise more, eat healthy food, have plenty of fresh air and sunshine, and be in good faith.

The SDA Church’s PNG Union Mission Health Director, Gad Koito, says ’’those who have diabetes, we will advise them to cut down on process foods and control their diets’’.

Reports have revealed that lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and high sugar level have been killing many Papua New Guineans.

Throughout this week, there will also be night programs on health evangelism by a Surgeon by profession, who is also a Pastor at the Seventh – day Adventist Mission’s South Pacific Division office in Australia.

This is the start of a big program that will come next year March in Mt Hagen.

More than 400 specialist doctors from SDA hospitals in USA will be in Mt Hagen for four days treating patients, do medical check-up, and surgeries.
