WESTERN TALENTS SECURE QUEENSLAND RUGBY LEAGUE PATHWAY OPPORTUNITIES

Ten Fly River Warriors players from Western Provincial that took part in the recent trial match against Central Dabaris and NCD Vipers, have been selected by Australian teams.

Western Provincial Governor, Taboi Awi Yoto confirmed and announced this recently.

Yoto said the players will now have the opportunity to join tier three rugby league competitions in Queensland, Australia, with potential pathways into Queensland Cup clubs.

“It is my pleasure to announce that these young raw talents have been identified and selected to further their rugby league careers abroad,” he said.

He added that beyond rugby league, the players will also gain employment opportunities and valuable work experience while in Australia.

“Apart from playing rugby league, they will also have the opportunity to be employed, earn income and gain work experience,” Governor Yoto stated.

The players include Cyrus Amma, Frank Chi-Lai, Roko Otto, Solo Umari, David Kirokae, Abel Tomban, Lionel Aitsi, Dole Apain and Agaewa Palo.

The selection process, he explained, was based on club requirements, including player skill, physical attributes and age, with a focus on athletes between 18 and 23 years.

“Though everyone had an equal chance, clubs selected players based on their roster needs in consultation with our Fly River Warriors management team,” he said.

Governor Yoto confirmed that preparations are now underway for travel documents, including passports and visas, while players continue training with the Vipers Development Squad in Port Moresby.

He also acknowledged the support of partners and sponsors in making the pathway possible.

“This is our first step, but it will not be the last. Dreams are free, and we hope to see one of these players become the next Kumuls or even join the PNG Chiefs,” he said.
