The NCD Walk for Life this Sunday will be dedicated to the victims of the earthquake in the Highlands region and the Western Province.
NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, is inviting all city residents to turn up this Sunday at Ela Beach Ring road at 6:30am to show support for the disaster victims.
Governor Parkop said NCD will be contributing in cash or kind to the affected areas and a donation tent will be put up on Monday at City hall for people to donate.
The NCD governor described the recent earthquake as a thief who sneaked into the night and caused so many damages to innocent communities.
Parkop who announced the Earthquake Relief “Walk for life” for this Sunday, said many people in and outside of PNG are willing to help the disaster victims but don’t know where to go about. He said NCD will be providing an avenue for people to donate through their different fundraising programs.
While Parkop welcomed the government’s call for an SOE, he said the K450Million would not be enough to repair all damages caused to the communities. He said a disaster relief should be priority as the slow response to the help the communities will result in more social problems.
Parkop said the 4 provinces of Hela, Enga, SHP and Western Province have been sustaining PNG and its time now for Papua New Guineas to give back and show their support.
