Wabag public calls for Police Commissioner to sack PPC

The escalating lawlessness in Wabag District in Enga Province has pushed the locals to petition Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga to sack the Provincial Police Commander.

The public presented a petition to authorities in the province, condemning lack of policing in the district.

They are calling for the sacking of provincial police commander, among other things.

Wabag Open MP, Robert Ganim, supported the call by the people stating police had fail their duty in responding to lawlessness, mainly tribal fighting.

Mr Ganim made the remarks in front of a capacity crowd in Wabag town after relatives of two men who were shot dead by members of a warring clan.

According to police reports the victims, one from Kala and another from Kia tribes near Wabag, were on the roadside last Sunday when a group of men from Sakarip area, who allegedly hijacked a PMV bus, drove towards Teremanda village, before they mistakenly mistook them for their enemies and shot them dead with high powered gunfire.

Mr Ganim is set talk to Governor Peter Ipatas to push for a change in the police hierarchy to restore public trust and confidence.
