Update: Gaire Shooting

A policeman attached to highway patrol Central Province has been formally charged for wilful murder under the Criminal Code .

He was arrested and charged by NCD Metropolitcan Command Homicide Detectives on Tuesday 30th March.

The policeman is now being held in custody awaiting court appearance next week.

NCD/Central Assistance Commissioner of Police Anthony Wagambie Junior who addressed the grieving parties when the incident occurred on March 26th said he has taken keen interest to ensure justice would take its course.

He spoke to relatives of Late Billy Iru as well as the community from Gaire along the Magi Highway after the young man was shot allegedly at close range by the policeman.

The charges were laid after homicide detectives and scene of crime officers went to the area and drew up the crime scene.

NCD Central Commander, Anthony Wagambie Junior, thanked the community and Central Governor Robert Agarobe for assisting the police.
