A young man from Bermal village in the Transgogol area of Madang District was chopped to death late yesterday afternoon by a group of armed suspects from a neighbouring village.
The man was attacked during a soccer match.
The armed suspects are still at large and villagers have sought support from local police to apprehend suspects involved in the killing.
Provincial police commander senior inspector, Rubiang Manzuc, met with community leaders this afternoon to help arrest the suspects.
This killing now brings the total number of killings since October to 12.
Last month three men were chopped to death in the Transgogol area.
The killings have been retaliation, stemming from an earlier murder that occurred in October of this year.
The villages of Transgogol are urging for police assistance.
Madang police have urged the community leaders to work with police in bringing forward suspects.
The situation remains tense and police are on high alert to respond to any situation
