Thrilling Draw at POM Netball Competition

A 51-point all draw between Paramana and Snax Mermaids, capped off an exciting start to Round 3 of the Port Moresby Netball Premier Division competition on Wednesday night.

Competition front runners Mermaids, welcomed back captain Nancy Kapi, in a bid to bolster their mid court.

It was a revitalised Paramana, who were desperate to take control and they did so from the get go.

There was only a single goal separated both sides by half-time with Paramana in front, although that narrow lead would be extended by five more goals leading into the final quarter.

Desperation by the Mermaids in their defensive third against Marie Ottio and Kala Iamo towards the dying stages would restrict Paramana’s goal scoring, and it wasn’t until Mermaids Goal Attack Jeperth Tulapi’s last ditch effort, did it prove important. It was an even contest in the other Tier 1 match, with the Sparrows and Telstars.

The introduction of a number of new faces in the Sparrows outfit, with Cindy Elavo and Maimu Kala featuring, showcasing their depth. Kimberly Alex, for the Telstars, would make a return to the starting side, as Captain Albertine Kabaru fought to keep her side in the contest.

The final score was in favour of the Sparrows at 53- 41.

The competition is continuing this weekend.
