The 2017 Trukai Industries and Paradise Beverages Morobe Open Begins

The hype around the 2017 Trukai Industries and Paradise Beverages Morobe Open has been invigorated, as the tournament officially commenced.

With today’s ProAm a chance for the golfers to know the green, a host of former winners as well as defending champion Damien Jordan, all having a hit out at the Lae Golf Course.

Despite humid conditions , in the Morobe Province, the fifty something players involved in the Morobe open hit the greens with the events corporate sponsors, as the Pro Am competition commenced today.

One of those competitors is Cory Crawford. The 25-year-old is having his first run in Morobe, despite having previously taken part in the more lucrative PNG Open.

At last night’s cocktail event, former tournament Justin Maker was candid about the event, stating that players like Crawford would face very stiff competition, especially in the likes of defending champion Damien Jordan, and Martin Dive.

Dive himself has come close on occasion to taking out the Morobe Open and finds the familiarity a comfort.

Alongside Dive, former winner Michael Wright is also hoping he has the run of the greens.

While the Morobe Open is part of the sunshine PGA Tour, organiser’s have stated that despite the lower number of golfers at this years event, the quality of the competition remains one of its best, and are confident that the next four days of competition will see something special at one of the biggest sporting events in Papua New Guinea.
