The Secretary for Education, Dr Uke Kombra, says the Education Department receives K3 billion every year for education, which is a portion of K20 billion of the National Budget for the Education sector.
K600 million is allocated for Tuition Fee Free Education Policy.
According to records, the Government owes 6 Primary Schools and a Secondary school in Lae District over K3.6 million.
Dr Kombra said he will meet with Morobe Education Officers tomorrow to clarify reports on these outstanding TFF payments in Morobe. He said he isn’t aware of schools in Morobe that claim to have outstanding TFF payments.
According to Dr Kombra, all schools should not have outstanding funds.
He said this in response to media reports that have stated the Government owes 6 primary schools and a secondary school in Lae District almost K3.6 million.
According to reports, the government owes Nawaeb Lutheran High School K1.2 million and Hekwange Primary School in Menyamya District more than K40,000.
Another school in Eastern Highlands Province, West Goroka Primary School, said the Government owes them more than K400,000 since 2017.
