Telefomin Subsidies

Students from Telefomin attending the University of Papua New Guinea have been encouraged to work hard as jobs are limited even for a graduate.

Member responsible, Solan Mirisim told the students that as a geographically challenged District, they must work hard to help develop the District.

He made these remarks when the District presented subsidies for the Free Tuition School Fees Assistance program at the UPNG campus.

Getting the best education and finding a better job for many of the students from Telefomin, attending the University of Papua New Guinea, is the only way out. Given the fact that Telefomin District is so remote and only accessible by air.

When the Member for Telefomin, Solan Mirisim visited them today, he told them to work hard as jobs are limited, even graduates are struggling to find jobs.

Through the District Support Improvement Fund Education Component, a total of K86, 000 will benefit 39 students.

Telex Jackson, representing students from Oksapmin, an LLG in the Telefomin District, thanked the Member for the support through the District.

Last year, Telefomin District spent K96, 000 for 40 students at UPNG. Similar subsidy payments have and will be paid out to various tertiary institutions to cater for the Telefomin students.
