Team Manus is ready to make an impact at the PNG Games: that was the message from provincial team manager Jack Nawi Changau, when asked about his team’s preparations.
The collection of islands which form the province are known to have produced some of the best soccer and hockey players the country has ever seen, though not necessarily having transcended into provincial success on the national stage.
With the approach of the 6th BSP PNG Games in November, sporting administration in the province has been working full on to ensure that the province, especially its athletes, reach their full potential.
Jack Nawi Changau left his job at the local post office to take up a position in sports administration.
While the job has been difficult, with remoteness and sponsorship issues, he is committed to see his people do well.
Another person who is also looking at success in the sporting arena is Peter Sakei who, as coach, led his side to the Besta Cup title last month.
Over the past five installments of the PNG Games, Manus averaged 10th overall and this year’s Games give an opportunity to improve that placing.
The province will be sending competitors in boxing, darts, hockey, soccer, body building and karate.
