The Melanesian province of Indonesian, West Papua and East Timor will for the first time take part in the 2014 Melanesian Arts and Culture festival.
They were officially welcomed by NCD governor Powes Parkop during the Turning On of Somare Circuit in Port Moresby last night.
The crescent is a joint project between the National Capital District Commission and PNG Power.
The circuit named after Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare was officially opened with the idea to promote security and safety in the Nation’s Capital during the Melanesian festival.
Governor Parkop said the festival aims to celebrate the Melanesian cultural values and is also an opportunity for PNG to promote their culture.
In another interview with Dennis Marita the Solomon Islands Artistic Director earlier today, he said the Solomon Islands delegation has a variety of items and traditional arts and crafts to displace.
The event will run for two weeks ending on the 11th of July. The Pacific Delegations are staying over at the Institute of Public Administration.
