Thirty-one specialised medical practitioners from Singhealth in Singapore have offered their skills and knowledge in the country.
A partnership between the Port Moresby General Hospital, Health Department and the Singhealth Team has seen successful surgeries and integrated methods of training PNG doctors through surgery procedures.
Health Secretary Pascoe Kase explained that the partnership is designed to build capacity of human health resources, develop future systems and improve health care delivery.
The partnership has been quietly progressing for the past seven years. The team of 31 medical practitioners have trained local surgeons in orthopaedics, urology, dental surgery and plastic surgery to name a few.
Health Secretary Pascoe Kase admitted that the number of qualified and skilled doctors is low, but through skills transfer engagements as such, the statistics can improve.
Some of our surgeons spoke of their experience and how they can operate effectively in the future.
The Singhealth Team have been in the country for the past week and leave tomorrow for Singapore.
