An election tragedy in the Western Highlands Province yesterday
17 people are now confirmed dead after a road accident in the Upper Kagul area of theTambul Nebilyer District.
A Doctor at Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital Emergency Ward said many more were injured in the accident, some of them in critical conditions at the Mt Hagen Hospital.
It is believed the people were returning home from an election gathering yesterday afternoon when the accident occurred.
They were travelling in an open back truck said to be overloaded.
