The second APEC Senior Officials Meeting for APEC 2018 began today in Port Moresby with representatives from the 21 APEC Member Countries. The meeting was held at the International Convention Centre.
Opening remarks were made by PNG SOM Chair Ivan Pamaleu, who thanked all member countries and welcomed the visiting APEC delegates. The starting of SOM 2 also concludes all the minor meetings that were held since last Monday.
Participating economies include Japan, Vietnam, Australia and Singapore. SOM Chair, Ivan Pamaleu made opening remarks stating that there were a number of important topics that will be discussed for the next two days. An outcome of the discussions is expected to be released tomorrow. But the SOM Chair made brief reference on participation of private sectors in developing economies.
SOM 2 ends on Thursday (May 24), while the Trade Ministers’ Conference will start on Friday (May 25) and ends on Saturday (May 26).
