Rugby League Offseason Competition Concluded

The Eastern Highlands Community in Port Moresby concluded their off- season rugby league competition at the Unagi Oval yesterday.

The competition was aimed at engaging youth and students in sports, and away from illicit activities.The matches have been fiercely contested bouts since the competition started, late last year.

 

The competition started three years ago, and has continued to sail through smoothly.It has gained support from Vice Sports Minister, Labi Amaiu, since day one and is growing from strength to strength.

 

It started in September last year, with a total of 42 teams from all around the nation’s capital. It was a thrilling grand finale encounter between GH Upisas in Rabbitohs jersey, and Kiki Rocks in the A grade division.  

 

Kiki Rocks went past the Siane Pythons in the Semis while Upisas edged out Air Niugini Ridge. The two Teams from Lufa District forgot the brotherhood bondage as they took the field, determined to fight right to the bone. 

 

GH Upisas with the last year premier title on hand, were not easy beats as they continued to push past the Kiki Rocks territory. Kiki Rocks on the other hand, boasted on their last year’s runner up tag, as they fought back, aiming on both corridors through their speedsters.  

 

Upisas recorded a try and a field goal while Kiki rocks trailed behind with a penalty at 5 – 2 to half time.In the second stanza, it was a blockbuster, resulting in both teams remained with same score line. 

Upisas retained their premiership while the Rocks remained a hard beats.
