“2014 has been a year of great achievements.” Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Rimbink Pato, said this in a joint Christmas message with the Department Secretary, William Dihm.
They thanked all those serving at our overseas missions and posts, for helping to make 2014 the most fruitful year of achievements for PNG’s diplomacy efforts.
In their joint Christmas message, Minister Pato and Secretary Dihm said some of the achievements of the year included the outcomes of important visits and international meetings hosted in PNG.
Also highlighted were the many occasions when representatives of government, the private sector and NGOs travelled abroad to meetings and conferences and present PNG’s national story.
Many of those visits were for the purposes of trade, finance, and development co-operation, which Mr Pato said, will help to build the country’s economy and bring opportunities for the people.
Mr Pato and Mr Dihm agreed that an important milestone was the restart of the Foreign Service Training Program in the Department.
The PNG foreign policy theme “PNG Connect; Growing Papua New Guinea’s Connections in a Globalising World,” has pointed the Department in a new direction.
With only a few days left till 2015, the year PNG will host the Pacific Games and celebrate its 40th anniversary of independence; Mr Pato urged his staff and their families to make 2015 even better by showcasing our diversity, democracy, and development of our country’s resources, the foremost of which is our people.
