Former Ambassador and prominent seasonal diplomat, Max Rai, signed a 12 month contract with the Department of Trade, Commerce and Industry, to oversee the Post of Director General in the Trade Division.
The Post has been vacant for the past 14 months since the transfer of the Trade Function from the Department of Foreign Affairs, to the Department of Commerce and Industry in early 2013.
According to the contract, Ambassador Rai will be tasked to consolidate existing structures and set up Trade offices in strategic locations, to safeguard and promote PNG’s investment and Trade interests.
Ambassador Rai had held several senior positions within the then Department of Foreign Affairs, and Trade before serving at overseas missions.
Secretary for the Department of Trade, Commerce & Industry, John Andrias, said during the contract signing occasion that Ambassador Rai will be responsible for getting in-house matters in the Trade Division.
Mr Rai signed the contract with Trade Commerce Secretary, John Andrias.
