PNG Pukpuks Rugby Sevens Coach, Douglas Guise, has set his sights on the HSBC Hong Kong Sevens later in the year.
Coach Guise said the team is banking on the Sydney and Hamilton Sevens Series to build momentum towards the World Series in Hong Kong.
Despite the challenges, coach Guise has set out a clear plan for his side to work on.
“We are confident of our game in this competition,” said Guise.
The absence of seasoned campaigners like Wesley Vali has not been a problem for the team.
However, a couple of new inclusions in the squad has earned Coach Guise’s respect as they prepare to make their international debut.
Going up against England, Spain and South Africa is a daunting prospect for the Pukpuks, but having a well-structured game plan to topple the tournament favourites is within the team’s capabilities.
The 14-member squad includes a crop of experienced players in the likes of Arthur Clement, Eugene Tokavai, Manu Guise and Captain Henry Kalua.
The team departs for Sydney next week Tuesday.
