Promoting Melanesian Ways

The Melanesian culture must be promoted, as part of our national and regional identity. The call was from National Cultural Commission Executive Director, Dr Jacob Simet.

All Papua New Guineans have been challenged to take a leading role in preserving and promoting our sovereignty.

Cultural and traditional values in the 21st century have been a great challenge for the preservation of our identity.

At the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture, satellite launching in Kokopo, over the weekend, Dr Simet pointed out the need to preserve and promote our diversified cultures and core values.

This is an objective of the Melanesian Spearhead Group to unite us together.

Governor Eramang ToBaining Junior thanked the commission for choosing Kokopo as the host.

He said the provincial government will ensure that the event is successful, significant and memorable to our Melanesian brothers and sisters.

But first, the Tolai people will be empowered to drive the awareness towards the event. NCC Board Member Wilson Thompson did the official launching.

Other regional launching will be at Wewak for Momase and Alotau for Southern, in preparation for the Festival from June 28 to July 2014.
