Port Moresby Registers Six Crimes in a Day

From the 12 crimes reported nationwide on Wednesday 30th January, 2019, six were from Port Moresby.

Police had made one arrest in relation to the 12 crimes reported nationwide according to the daily crime summary report provided by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Chief of Operations.

The 6 crimes reported in the Nation’s capital include wounding, arson, stealing, rape, willful murder and aiding escape.

Brief statements of crimes as reported by NCD/Central Command;

Port Moresby – Wounding – Pending – Victim/Complainant namely Rita Wampo F/31 from Kitema village in Western Highlands Province currently residing at Erima reported that the suspect namely SK Kundi from the same province badly wounded her. The incident took place on the 26th of January 2019 at around 2:00pm at Erima. The victim sustained serious injuries on her body. The matter was reported to Gordon Police Station. Investigation is still continuing.

Port Moresby – Arson – Pending – Complainant Ms Christina Goimba residing at Morata One New Block reported that her PMV Bus Route 21 Toyota Coaster Bus registration BDE 913 was burnt by five unknown suspects under the influence of alcohol. Incident occurred on the 27th January 2019 around 3:00am at the said location. Matter was reported to Gerehu Police Station. Suspects are still at large. Investigation is still continuing.

Port Moresby – Stealing (Major) – Pending – Complainant Joe Kerewa residing at ATS Last Block reported that the suspect namely Graham Kelua an employee of Black Swan International allegedly stole a taxi meter valued at K1,750.00 from the complainant’s vehicle. Incident happened on the 24th of January, 2019 around 2:00pm at the Holiday Inn. Matter was reported to Police. The suspect is still at large.

Port Moresby – Rape – Pending – It was reported that a driver of a PMV Bus registration P474D namely Gibson from Western Highlands Province picked up the victim residing at Morata Two, Power Station at Gordon Bus Stop and drove her to Morata One, Giburi Street. The suspect allegedly sexually penetrated the victim in the bus several times and he later took her to his house and continuously raped her for almost two weeks. The incident took place on the 19th of January 2019 between 7:00pm and 8:00pm at the said location. The matter was reported to Police. Suspect still at large.

Port Moresby – Willful Murder – 1× Arrest made – Complainant namely Jerry Kepa residing at Six Mile reported that the deceased namely Esther Kaupa female age 25 of mixed Chimbu and Goilala parentage was stabbed to death by another woman. The incident occurred on the 28th of January 2019 between 3:30pm and 4:00PM at East Boroko. The suspect namely Susan Auri was apprehended and arrested and locked up at the Boroko police cell.

Port Moresby – Aiding escape – Pending – On the 31st of December 2018 Probationary Constable 15507 Mathew Ketan was alleged to have aided a prisoner to escape from custody. Ketan and his team were working the 11:00pm to 7:00am shift when two suspects namely Jeetho Kwaindu and Friel Gima were charged by police and handed over to the Metro Cell for lock up together with the court file. Probationary Constable Ketan allegedly falsified a note on top of the bail receipt stating authorized by PSC Boroko and released the suspect.

Meanwhile, also, one case of fraud and robbery each reported on the same day with nil arrest made in Eastern Highlands Province.
