It was all vibrant with players in their colourful uniforms, with balloons, this morning at the Rita Flynn Courts, where the Port Moresby Netball Association launched its 2017 season.
President, Roy Mulina, officially launched the season in the presence of PNG Netball Federation President, Julienne Leka-Maliaki, and association representatives as well as some netball enthusiasts.
To mark the opening of the 2017 season, the low key event saw enthusiastic U10 and U13 girls taking the court, after the balloons were released.
With growing participation in the competition, a thrilled President Mulina said the number has increased by 20 new teams.
The POMNA President also revealed that the competition will implement a new system for the Premier Division, where unlike the traditional competition, this season will see the senior ladies play on Wednesdays instead of the weekends.
This is expected to raise the competition standard, as well as create a pool of players for the Super Series which will follow after the season, where elite players will form teams and face off.
There are also talks for a junior off Season competition also.
The season will go on break during the National Election period, and August has been marked for resumption.
From there on, the competition will continue until September, when it will wrap up, just before the National Championships.
