Porgera Mine Rolls Out Vaccination Program

Porgera Mine has started vaccination of its employees and contract employees under Care and Maintenance.
The AstraZeneca vaccine was rolled out at the Mine site on 21 May 2021 and is being administered weekly by the Mine Medical team and the rest of the C&M workforce are encouraged to get the jab.
Barrick Gold Corporation Latin America (LATAM) Regional Safety and Health Manager, Robin Sheahan, said it was good to understand the truth that getting vaccinated will help protect the employees and their families, as well as the country.
“And the truth of this is that you are protecting yourself, you’re protecting your family, and they’re also helping Papua New Guinea get back to some sort of normal state. And nothing is going to change unless we do something about it. And this is what we can do about it.
“The only way we can beat this virus collectively is through getting ourselves vaccinated, and to encourage our wantoks to get vaccinated as well. That’s when we can be 100 percent sure that we’ve got protection and then we can really focus on getting our country up and running again,” Sheahan said.
The rollout of the vaccination program at the Mine site is the latest of many measures the Mine Management team has taken over time, in efforts to prevent Coronavirus (COVID-19) from entering the Mine site.
The Niupela Pasin protocols are strictly being observed across the site.
