Popondetta Fire Service Opens New Duty Barracks

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EMTV News Port Moresby

The Popondetta Fire Station now has new duty barracks to accommodate fire officers on shifts.

Acting Chief Fire Officer, Bill Roo-who officiated the ribbon-cutting ceremony recently- said work stations in the country are in need of renovation and rehabilitation. He says considering the high demand for reliable firefighting services,  fire stations are not getting the support they need.

The new barracks, which costed over K200, 000, contain separate sleeping quarters for men and women firefighters, with common rooms and other facilities for duty officers.

This is the first improvement since the Fire Service established its office in Northern Province.
