Pom Punishers Gear Up For NGI Nines

The Port Moresby Punishers, a team made up of boys from all over Port Moresby, will be taking part in the New Guinea Islands Super 9’s tournament next year. The team has been in training for the past six weeks.

The team was put together by Andrew and Pauline Solomon, who formed the team to help youth in the sport of Rugby League prosper in their rugby league career.

The team is a collection of boys from different Port Moresby Rugby League and Intercity Cup teams.

In a lead up to the NGI 9s tournament in East New Britain, they will take part in the Bang 36 9s tournament which kicks off this weekend in Port Moresby at the National Football Stadium.

Coach, Steven Gunua, who is said to be one of the best coaches in the POMRFL competition, was given the opportunity to lead the team, and says he is confident and quite happy with the selected side.

A young and vibrant team will take part in the Port Moresby 9s next year, and hopes to one day enter the Port Moresby Rugby League Competition.

Today, sponsor, Pauline Solomon, on behalf of Inter Centre presented the teams new playing jerseys.

The NGI 9s tournament will kick off on the January 20, 2017.
