Early in an interview before the exhibition started, Sgt Thomas Moiyang of the National Drug and Vice Squad, said this marijuana was mostly taken from the settlement areas and bus stops from sellers. According to Sgt Moiyang, the drugs taken were from young boys. Sgt Moiyang revealed that elderly people also sell drugs.
5kg of these drugs were confiscated by the National Drug and Vice Squad and about 35kg were from the Boroko District Court Exhibits.
From the batch of marijuana destroyed today 5 kilograms were from raids at conducted at 5mile and Morata settlement. A further 17kg confiscated from ATS is yet to be exhibited and destroyed as it is still in court.
The law states that any person caught in possession of marijuana will be sentenced to at least a minimum of 3 to 6 months imprisonment and a maximum of 2 years imprisonment. Sgt Thomas Moiyang says the imprisonment term should increase.
