The SP PNG Hunters will take on East Tigers in the 18th round of the Intrust Super Cup at Aipus Oval this weekend. The Hunters arrived yesterday in Wabag, and will receive the visitors tomorrow. Coach Michael Marum says the weekend game will be tough for both teams.
Hunters lock forward, Moses Meninga, will be captaining the team this weekend against East Tigers at. Marum says the match will be tough but they are rebuilding the team and making sure they identify the best players to play in the remaining games.
Upon their arrival yesterday at Wapenamanda Airport, the Hunters were given a rousing welcome and standing ovation from the airport all the way to Wabag Town as this will be the first time for the province to host the Intrust Super Cup match.
Coach Marum is happy the game will be played in a new environment to give some fresh air and good vibes to the team. They were warmly received by Enga Governor, Sir Peter Ipatas.
East Tigers have been in the competition for 20 years while Hunters for only six. The Hunters are sitting in the 13th position on the ladder, while the Tigers are in 6th place.
Marum is confident his boys will win this match, stating Hunters have managed to play in the interstate championship, made 4 final appearances and won a minor premiership in 2017.
Ten thousand tickets will be sold starting today. 2000 tickets will be sold in Mt Hagen at the Jack’s of PNG store, while the rest to be sold in Wabag.
