PNG Power: NCD Outages Due to Lightning Storm

PNG Power this afternoon issued a statement on the power fluctuations experienced in Port Moresby and outlying areas on Wednesday evening.

This was due, the statement outlined, to “lightning strikes and thunder during heavy rain”.

PNG Power explained that the outage came about due to the system shutting down.

This was at the LNG Power Plant and the Rouna 3 Hydro Power Station.

Work by service teams started at 7:30pm, to start up the Rouna 2 Hydro Power Station. While other substations were started thereafter. Power was fully restored at 9.35pm.

The statement also reported that the Electricity company’s Easipay Customers will have difficulty paying for electricity vouchers on the Digicel network top-up system.

The issue is to be fixed by the Mobile company.

Alternative ways to purchase the units would be through the Bemobile network and at vending sites at retail outlets.
