PNG Rugby League fans have until 5pm this Friday 26th October 2012 to cast their votes for their favourite former PNG greats for the ELA MOTORS LEGENDS OF LEAGUE clash against their Australian counterparts on November 18.
Voting will close this Friday to allow for the public votes to be tallied and availability of players to be confirmed before the announcement of the PNG Legends team late next week.
The PNG team will then go into camp at the Holiday Inn on Friday 16th November in preparation for the Legends dinner that night and the match on the Sunday. PNG NRL BID CEO Brad Tassell said there was huge interest in the match and expected more votes to pour in before voting closes on Friday.
“It has generated a lot of interest and debate which I think is great, because the PNG Public has had a say in what players will make up the final Legends team. By the close of voting we will have over a few thousand votes recorded and we are anticipating because of the response that there will be a large crowd on hand for the clash.”
Tassell also said players who aren’t selected won’t miss out.
“For former Kumuls who don’t make the final Legends team we will be asking them to register their names at the PNG NRL BID office. They will then be invited to take part in a lap of honour before the match in front of the crowd in recognition of their past achievements. This match is all about celebrating the history of Rugby League in PNG and Australia and we encourage the PNG public to get to the match and support the event,” said Tassell.
