PNG – Indonesia set for 10 Kilometre Run

Papua New Guinea and Indonesia will take part in a long- distance race in Wutung, Sandaun Province to Skouw in the Papua Province of Indonesia tomorrow.

More than 500 runners from the two provinces including one of PNG’s elite runners SimbaiKaspar will be a special guest at the event following his recent success at the cross country championships in Guam.

Sandaun Provincial Administrator Henry Norm said event is centred on encouraging people on the border on the importance of sport.

“Healthy body and healthy mind are key elements of the human resource and contribute immensely to maintain peace along the border area of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia,” Norm said.

Last year’s race started on the Indonesian side and ended at the border. Papua Province won the race.

Grand chief Michael Somare was also among guest attended the presentation of prize for the winner of 10 run 2013.

This year’s race will at Wafa in Wutung, 8 km from no man’s land and finish on the Indonesia side next to the border market.
