PM Commends PNG Accountants Body

Prime Minister James Marape, MP has commended the PNG Certified Professional Accountants (CPA) for becoming a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).

He said this when opening the 24th Joint Annual Conference of accountants at the Stanley Hotel in Port Moresby today (21/11/19).

PM Marape thanked the Certified Professional Accountants (CPA) of Australia, IFAC and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for supporting CPA PNG to achieve IFAC full membership after being an Associate Member for some time.

“Congratulations PNG CPA on your achievement and I urge your members to be the last line of defense in the fight in ensuring public monies and assets are accounted for.

“You deal with numbers and numbers don’t lie. They add up and that’s what it is and you are very important,” said PM Marape.

He said that accountant’s role is important in a world where there are issues of deceit, fraud whether it’s corporate or individual. “I want you to know that as accountants; you sit in a body of transparency to ensure that the organizations you work for are compliant with public funds and what they are mandated to do,” he said.

PM Marape also said the Government will work with CPA PNG in the areas of auditing and financial investigations.

He will be attending the closing of the two-day conference with the theme: Navigating the Digital Disruption, when it ends tomorrow.
