PIE PROGRAM

The official launching of the Partnership for Improving Education (PIE) took place yesterday at Papa Junior High school in the Central Province.

It is a partnership that will be going from 2022-2030.
It is a partnership between the Department of Education and the Australian Government aimed at improving the quality of education in the country.
Present to officiate at the ceremony was the Australian High Commissioner to PNG His Excellency Jon Philp, Acting Deputy Secretary, Policy and Corporate Services Directorate Anne-Marie Kona on behalf of the education secretary.

A total of four provinces throughout the country were selected to have this program run for the first time and they are Central, West Sepik, Bougainville and Enga Provinces.

Mrs Kona explained that this partnership will help to improve the quality of education in the country. She said with the program being launched in the Central Province, it gives an opportunity for schools in the province to set an example in improving student enrolment, retention and learning outcomes.
Kona further elaborated that there will also be similar programs launched in the Autonomous Regions of Bougainville, Sandaun and Enga Provinces respectively.
The Australian High Commissioner His Excellency Jon Philp emphasized that it is important to support education as it is the future of this country.
