The Opposition has reacted to Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s response to the K50 million payment of 2 generators for PNG Power.
Yesterday the Prime Minister said K50 million is still parked in a trust account at the Central Bank.
In a media conference this afternoon, Opposition leader Belden Namah said the K50 million payment was done before NEC approved the payment.
On the 25th of February this year, NEC approved the purchase of 2 generators at a cost of K94 million.
Mr. Namah said the NEC decision was done this year; however, bank transaction details show that the K50 million was transferred in December last year.
The opposition is raising concern that the public finance management act has been breached in that there was no public tender called for this public contract.
Mr. Namah said the PM’s response that cabinet approved the purchase relates to the second purchase and not the first transaction.
