OPPOSITION LEADER CONGRATULATES PNG

The Deputy Opposition Leader James Nomane has congratulated the people of Papua New Guinea on this 49th years of Independence and democratic government.

Mr. Nomane said this in a statement earlier today that this is a time for the country to commemorate the patriots from all parts of the country that came together for a date with destiny. Starting with the Father of the Nation, Sir Michael Somare, Sir Rabbie Namaliu, Sir Tei Abal, Fr John Momis, Sir John Kaputin, Sir Silas Atopare, Sir Iambake Okuk, Sir John Guise, Sir Albert Kipalan, Sir Buri Kidu, and Sir Sinake Giregire. There are many others without whom our hope for Independence would not have succeeded like Anton Parao, Paul Torato and John Watts to name a few.

Despite the challenges affecting the country, history has taught the nation to be united as one and put God first.

“On this special day, let us not blame the National Government, the Opposition, or each other for our day-to-day struggle, but use this day to reaffirm our individual commitment to nation-building.” Mr. Nomane said.

Opposition leader encouraged the people to take ownership and lead in ways that you could to contribute towards the nation building.

“Let us take ownership of our actions and our decisions so we can meaningfully contribute towards a better tomorrow. We all have free will and the power of choice. Let us use this to be creative, innovative, and work together to solve problems. Our unity is our strength. Make no mistake  together we can.” He said.

Mr. Nomane urged the people to respect the rule of law, be law-abiding citizens, uphold the tenets of the constitution and vehemently defend it.

“We must put down the guns and commit to making our communities safe for our women and children. Let us commit to truth, justice, equity, peace and choose to be better with patient, be considerate and choose to restore our national pride and the confidence of our people.” Mr. Nomane said.
