Opposition Confident with Vote of no Confidence

By Adelaide Kari – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Opposition have stated that they have secured 8 members of parliament from Government for the vote of no confidence. While names were not stated, they say the ball is rolling with the main aim to remove Peter O’Neill as Prime Minister.

3 opposition members Kerenga Kua, Sir Mekere Moruata and Isi Leonard returned from Goroka after holding an opposition meeting on Thursday. They were joined in Port Moresby by deputy opposition leader and member for South Bougainville, Timothy Masiu.

They say the ball is rolling and after February 5th a motion will be put forward for a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill. Their meeting in Goroka apparently showing cracks in the Government with the Opposition claiming 8 MPs from Government ranks may join them.

The opposition say they are hearing the cry of the people, and are calling on members of Government to also have their people’s interest at heart.

This week, National Planning Minister, Richard Maru, said any attempts at a vote of no confidence would cause instability. However, today, the Opposition called on the Government to come forward with the numbers and statistics to prove that theory, saying the argument of instability was being overused.

In what will be interesting times ahead, the opposition says they will release names and the parties joining their ranks in the coming days.
